Jim,
Was your '71 39 built at Bruckmann's? My '71 43 was built at Bruckmann's and has a large cast bronze lower rudder bearing assembly. To keep the water out I pump lotsa grease into the tube through a zerk fitting several times a year. Last summer we dropped the rudder for some repairs. To refill to packing gland it took 2 tubes of Lubriplate 130AA waterproof grease to prevent water ingress. I have a '71 C&C 39 (Windquest) and the rudder port is leaking and there is a bit of play where the rudder post enters the hull. Are there drawings available of the rudder port? Has anyone had one apart. The boat is unique among '39s in that it has a partial skeg and high aspect ratio rudder rather than the typical shark fin. Any help would be much appreciated. Jim
