I have found that some white lithium grease cakes and hardens with time.I
suppose it would have worked fine had I cleaned and regreased every year.but
sometimes I wait more than 5 years.my Barient 28+ sheet winches and my
secondary sheet winches are getting done this spring before launch.I plan to
use Pennzoil Marine 100% synthetic white marine grease on the gears and
Harken winch oil on the pawls and bearings

Subject: Stus-List Winch grease, Harken or Lewmar?

Thought I'd ask the experts, "Which winch grease is better to service my
1989 Barient (aluminum drum) winches?" 21, 27, 28

Harken synthetic? Black, waterproof, non-aging. 3.5 oz for $12.89

Lewmar Multi-Purpose? Tan, Calcium-sulphonate based, like Lubriplate AA
3.5 oz for $15.49
