I have found that some white lithium grease cakes and hardens with time.I suppose it would have worked fine had I cleaned and regreased every year.but sometimes I wait more than 5 years.my Barient 28+ sheet winches and my secondary sheet winches are getting done this spring before launch.I plan to use Pennzoil Marine 100% synthetic white marine grease on the gears and Harken winch oil on the pawls and bearings
