I was recently given an older iPad, upon which I will load the Active Captain Companion for use while cruising. I have a handle on how to load that app and navigation software onto the device.
I already have a couple of e-reader apps on the device, including the Nook software, and will probably use it as a reading device on the boat. The tangential relationship to sailing, and the question I need help with, has to do with my Admiral. She had a stroke several years ago and has some difficulty reading books. My Windows devices have a feature that can be used to convert text to speech. She has an iPod Touch that is set up to do the same thing when the e-reader app is opened to read a book. My problem is that I can't figure out how to generate text-to-speech on the iPad, even using a copy of iPad For Dummies as a reference. Help! I want to keep the Admiral happy, comfortable, and amused on the boat. Can anyone give me some guidance, or suggest an app to buy if I need to do that? Rick Brass
