Chuck,

We have roughly the same size boat and I have a 12KBTU Cruisaire reverse cycle
unit in Scandia. This will cool the aft cabin and main cabin to mid 70s with
the forward cabin closed off as long as outside air and water temps are not
extremely high. The previous owner installed a 16K unit which I replaced
several years after I bought the boat. I’m sure you’re aware of this but make
sure you have adequate sized return grills as well as ducts for the cool air
discharge — the previous ones were undersized. I installed the unit at the
bottom of the starboard sail locker, which is where the previous system lived,
and have ducts into the main cabin, aft cabin, and head. I like Dennis’ idea
about the T in the line to flush out sediment from the lines and heat
exchanger, and plan to install that this spring, having had some problems with
shutdown on a couple of very hot days last year. BTW, have you decided on a
marina in the Annapolis area?
