Some online reading about Garmin's HomePort here on Panbo: http://www.panbo.com/archives/2010/01/garmin_homeport_excellent_but_revealing.html
I assume HomePort plays nice with Google Earth too. I know MapSource does. Here's a video I just found on using HomePort with Google Earth: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GP74Ak2hbbA I don't use it yet as I'm still using Garmin's MapSource (obsolete) with older Garmin charts that came on a CD. I'll have to switch to HomePort when I do my next major chart update. Ken H.
