Not all manufacturers have the balanced rudder setup with the short keel in front. The pin catches grass before it gets trapped in the joint. Newer designs have a simple balanced spade and older designs have a longer skeg in front of the rudder or the rudder is fully attached behind the full keel.

If it saves you from even one episode of floating line jammed in between the rudder and hull...it's worth it.
