my solution was to buy one of those folding wheels; I love it and have kept it through three different boats...it solves all of the issues mentioned in previous emails, and you don't have to take it off and store it... I love the looks I get from the power boaters when I start unfolding it...they go Whaaaa?

Otto is usually driving on long motors and if you are sailing you sit to the sides anyway to see telltales...... looks like PO got a couple of short stainless handrails that matched the hole pattern of the helm seat to finish off the sides of the propane lockers where the helm seat went.
