An additional note on this old thread. My 12V TV finally quit a month ago, and I was bummed because it was a cheap 12V TV that could play AVI movies from a flash drive. I'd been keeping an eye on things, because home electronics tend to corrode much faster than marine electronics, and it was an LCD, so I knew it was going to die someday and am actually very happy that I was able to abuse it for ten years.

I really thought I'd have to just get a 120V cheap flat panel that would fit the space, and forget the 12V thing and probably forget the USB movie thing, and forget watching movies while on the hook. I also thought that might be a blessing in disguise.

Today at WalMart NV Mexico I found an RCA DETG220M4 that has DC input and a 12V external power brick so I can splice it in, and it also plays AVI to MP4 movies from the USB port. There was one left on the shelf, so I grabbed it for 2200 pesos. It works great.

I only mention this because stuff in Mexico is often out-of-market stuff that didn't sell up north and was dumped, and I've learned that if you see something you need you must go for it immediately because it may never be on the shelf again. Doing a Google Search, I only see a few sources left for that specific model number. But if you're looking for a cheap 12V TV that plays movies from a flash port, I'd grab it now.

Hey, I bought a 12v TV from Walmart ten years ago. It works. Go sailing.
