Of all the venues I have been lucky enough to race in, San Francisco stands out.

The combo of reliable wind and lotsa current makes the racing fun and
competitive. For many years I participated in 3 to 4 J-24 regattas each year
on the Bay. We rarely had light wind or rain or winds high enough to abandon.
Hanging out at the St. Francis YC or up in the marina district restaurants and
bars made the night life almost as fun as the racing.

In 1981 I delivered a boat back to San Francisco from Hawaii. We sailed into
the Bay at sunset with the Golden Gate bridge lit up by the sun. (That made up
for several other trips under the bridge in fog.)

The PNW has many more places to sail/cruise to, Hawaii has better temps and
trade winds but San Francisco is my favorite place to race.

Subject: Stus-List San Francisco Bay - Awesome sailing venue -

The Admiral and I are sitting in a bar at the end of Pier 39 overlooking
Alcatraz and tons of sloops, schooners, double mast gaff rigs, spinnakers
flying and every imagine able sail craft on the bay. Beautiful sunny day with
mid-teens. Absolutely gorgeous!!
