Hi Dave,

I actually had the opportunity to play with both versions. In addition to
higher resolution, the version 2 has a much faster processor and supports
the pinch to zoom functionality. There are also a few nuances in the
interface where it is more menu / swiping driven and less button intensive
navigation. As the processors are faster the touch screen is also more
responsive on the newer version and I believe the version 2 is also less
power hungry. The GPS sensor is 10hz refesh rate on the new one vs 5hz on
the V1. Makes a difference for Autopilot. The V2 also has 2 sd card slots
instead of 1 and a couple other things

I have not tested it in salt water but I can attest to its flawless
performance during a night race when we got caught in a pretty decent
strength thunderstorm last summer. Soaking wet under a pounding rain storm
all the touch functionality was spot-on and quite frankly the chartplotter
was the only "crew" on the boat that had a clue where we were because of
the zero visibility situation.. It kept us off the dangerous shoals and
earned its keep that night !

As for future updates and on-going support it is likely that they will
"Sunset" the software upgrades and support on the version 1 long before
they do the version 2.

Honestly though given the sales they are running the V1 is less than half
the price of the V2 for at least 80-85% of the functionality.. So it looks
like one heck of a great deal. The difference was not that big last year.

My 2 cents.

I have been intrigued by this discussion as I don?t think much of the
Lowrance unit that came with my boat. Does anyone know the difference
between the two Zeus T7 models at Defender? One is on sale for $560 and
the other is more than $1000 and is a bit higher resolution screen. Dave
