Help! Last winter/spring (yes the beginning of 2014), a boat fell into mine damaging at least the Harken furling system . Back then I got some good advice on what to look for including having the Navtec rigging inspected.
Now I need help finding a competent and reliable company to complete a second opinion rigging inspection with specific experience in Navtech rigging) so I can get things operational in time for the spring. Here is the horror story (and it's a long one): . February 11, 2014 notified by BoatUS that a boat they were insuring had toppled into my boat. . Discussions with BoatUS began about steps to take to settle the claim . June 30 got letter from BoatUs with the okay to proceed. They are making me responsible for a deductible on the claim on my boat even though it was damage caused by another boat they insure (problem was a result of the insufficient number of jack stands used by the marina on the other boat. . Aug 5 Rigger finally arrives to remove the mast and take it to his shop for inspection . September 18 finally got the initial survey report which needed further clarification including the 2 statements; "The standing rigging is in serviceable condition" and "It is recommended that the standing rigging be replaced". . Sept 18 to February 10, 2015 - repeated attempt to contact the rigging company for more detail and updates. o Attempted to ascertain why the rigging was only visually inspected and not dye tested. o Why wasn't the rigging disassembled for inspection o Etc. o October 3, contacted BoatUS to inform them that there was damage to my boat by the rigging company while they removed the mast (broken cabin-top teak handrail, inverted cabin compass allowing all of the fluid to drain out, hole in cabin roof for mast was not closed off) o (On or before) November 11 - rigger indicated that the issued survey report was in error and needed to be corrected. To date, I have never received an updated report. . Over the past week, BoatUS and their contracted surveyor have been working to find out what was going on after I requested help so as not to put in a claim for a stolen mast and rigging. o Found the rigger had left his place of business without a forwarding address. o Further investigation has located the rigger who is now operating out of his home/barn. o Rigger re-issued the same survey report that he had originally issued that he had indicated contained errors including that visible damage had been noted, but not listed in the report. . Next step - find a reputable place to re-perform the rigging inspection and make necessary repairs. It has only taken a year so far, what is another few week (he says holding back tears and fury)/
