They are both.. 

As a Zeus 2 user and racer I  have learned that like most everything else 
it has to be tempered with moderation.  The 1st couple times I used it, 
especially while racing I was guilty of spending too much time staring it 
at the expense of other stuff happening on the race course and missed a 
few things. 

On the other hand I've also seen some instances where I covered more 
ground quicker / in less tacks than my competition by following the 
dynamic laylines.  It's nice to have and it can make a noticeable 
difference, especially on longer trips / races.  For me, I needed a 
charplotter to safely navigate the shoals at night anyway so it was easy 
to justify. 

Bottom line: It's no ultimate racing silver bullet (That doesn't exist). 
It's just another tool helping the overall picture.

Looks like they are catching up to B&G.  Of course, the big question is 
whether the data is useful or just a distraction.
