Charlie, I had a similar situation with my Universal M35b, which is based on the same Kubota engine as your Beta (I get my parts from Piston & Ring in Washington. Richard owns 1/2 interest in Beta Marine).
Problem was the electric lift pump used to provide fuel to the main fuel injection pump. When the lift pump got hot, it would stop working. Got a replacement for the electric lift pump, plus a spare, and have not had a problem in several years.
