Graham Thanks for the compliment! You missed out on a great day's sailing on Saturday while you were stripping the boat
Bob has been telling me (and I believe everyone on this list) the merits of Micron 66 for the past three years. Finally after 4 years of Micron CSC on our J27 which in the Fall moored near Bob and then 1 year of petit Vivid on Persistence in the same area I broke down and bought Micron 66. I had t make a 5 hour round trip while on a ski vacation in Maine to Searsport in order to get it but Bob has convinced me it is worth the trouble Every year with the J27 we would haul the boat on Labour Day on the North Coast of Nova Scotia and then trailer it to Halifax where after a thorough pressure wash and scrub it would be relaunched Sept 9 and sailed til Oct 24. With the Micron CSC I would encounter grass at the waterline and on the outboard rudder when the boat was in Halifax and a spongy slime that spreads in start patterns on the flat undersides of the boat when in the Northumberland Strait on the North Shore. Last year with the Vivid I hauled the boat mid July to do transducer work and then again Sept 11 for prop shaft repairs and both times the boat was dirty. This year we scrubbed the boat in April, applied Micron 66 over the Vivid and launched April 30. First week of August was Baddeck Race week and we raced against another Frers 33 that is well sailed and was freshly scrubbed prior to the race week. He uses VC Offshore and likely has the fastest hull at his club. We did not scrub. There was no noticeable difference in boat speeds and we managed to beat him a couple times and lost when we screwed up in other areas. We have also raced the boat a bit this Fall and it does not seem noticeably slow. The hull was last scrubbed (prepare yourselves) in April. We are hauling the boat next week after one more race tomorrow - the Diehard Race at Armdale Yacht Club (where I hope to see Graham again). I have instructed the yard to NOT PRESSURE WASH the hull as I am very anxious to see if this magic paint is all that Bob has hyped it to be. If I have barnacles then I believe Bob and I will have to drown our sorrows in some sort of beverage that is dark in colour and smells like rim Sorry for the long story Mike Persistence 1987 Frers 33 #16 -----Original Message----- From: CnC-List [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Graham Collins via CnC-List Sent: Thursday, October 22, 2015 10:34 PM To: [email protected] Cc: Graham Collins Subject: Re: Stus-List Anti-fouling paint We all are still praying, Mike and I hold regular meetings.
