I don't have a short track. My Genoa track runs from the shrouds to just even with the forward edge of the cockpit. I used to race with a #1, but most of the time my boat was overpowered, and the main was back-winded. I tried a #2, with a six second handicap gain, and was able to point higher. Then I tried racing with a #3 (105%). I gained another three seconds, and I point higher than everyone else in my fleet, with no noticeable change in speed. We tack faster, and the main doesn't get back-winded. I never went back to the larger Genoa.
