Last winter I rewired the mast and redid all the connections for nav and instrument lights. The boat originally came with a pull-switch by the engine control panel to turn on the compass light (now LED) and the instrument lights on the original Moor speed and depth (which still work…); to that, I added the Windex light I installed at the mast head. There are separate breakers for the deck-level nav lights; the new masthead tricolor; the steaming light; and the anchor light.
I like being able to control the compass/instrument/Windex lights separately; besides, trying to wire them to come on when either the deck-level OR the masthead tricolor lights are on would be a pain. YMMV...
