Jerry, I replaced practically all of my interior lights with these:
http://www.westmarine.com/buy/west-marine--8-led-4-white-4-red-dome-light-white-off-red-switch-positions--9265950?recordNum=8 They fit in pretty much the same footprint as the old lights, use much less power, and they switch to red only for night sailing.
