My earlier '89 never had the storage box, instead just an access cover. The PO had removed the 4 screws in the corners of the cover. It stays in place really well so I've never seen it necessary to replace them. I can pull the cover and then squeeze pretty much all the way back. The PO cut the rudder tube to accommodate the auto pilot arm so here's some pictures. I have a zirc in the top half and one in the bottom. In retrospect I wish I had considered the water level outside. I would have put the bottom zirc a little higher.
