This annual hurricane watching is growing old. Been doing it too long. I owned a beachfront condo in Gulf Shores, AL for years. Always a bit of angst every couple years.
Floating piers are really nice. Touche' is currently on a floating pier in Bayou Chico in Pensacola. 30°24'25.40"N 87°15'20.37"W I'm guessing it's good for about Category 3 with about 12 foot tall pilings.. However Hurricane Ivan in 2004 carried away a set of floating piers at another Pensacola marina. I don't think their pilings were high enough. https://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/IOTD/view.php?id=4849 Touche's home slip is a really nice hurricane hole up Bayou Castine in Mandeville, LA. Bayou is narrow and well off the lake so no wave action. 30°20'59.23"N 90° 3'14.33"W It weathered Hurricane Katrina with no problems at all. Prayers to all in Irma's path. Dennis C.
