Especially if you intend to pull the rig, Jim, sewing elkhide boots on is remarkably easy. I did that last year with mine and even though I though I made a hash of the job, you wouldn't know it from the deck! Mind you, I did start with the top set of spreaders first. It's a quick enough job that it can be done from a bosun's chair without earring yourself out.
