Headstay length for a 30-1 appears to be between 40 and 41 feet. Looking at the 
luff length and the foot length vs. J of a 30-1, it would appear that the 1st 
sail (with a luff of 39’) is a 90% Blade, while the shorter sail is a 115% 
Lapper. The lapper actually has more sail area than the blade. And the sail 
size means the center of effort is lower and closer to the mast, so it is more 
useful in high winds… though the blade would be faster to tack because it can 
be tacked inside the fore triangle.

Thanks for sharing that.  The 30 Mk1 sail’s luff length is listed as 36’.  That 
seems about five feet short of full hoist for a 30-1.
