Because it is so shallow, Lake Pontchartrain water levels can fluctuate a lot with the wind. Years ago, I was downrigging my beach catamaran at the boat launch in front of my yacht club on the north shore of the lake. A strong wind line blew in from the south. The water around my ankles rose 6 inches in a matter of minutes.
