On the top spreaders the shape and shroud position in the tip may be symmetrical.
On the lower spreader the tips are designed to accommodate 2 different sized shrouds. One forward of the other. Assuming the top and bottom of the spreader are clearly defined it is not beyond the realm of possibilities that someone inadvertently got port and stbd swapped. Staying in a proper top/bottom orientation this would mean rotating position around the mast 180°. Now the spreader tip hole that was forward is now aft. It would be bigger for the cap shroud. Since holes in the chain plate probably have hole sizes that coordinate with the size of shroud (large, small, large). This mistake of the spreader would then carry forward to placement of the shrouds in the chain plate. Just a possible explanation. You might check the symmetry of the lower spreaders and compare it to the uppers. Look for the possibility of it having been swapped in the past and naturally the ability to swap it back.
