Thanks for all the great replies guys! Based on your comments I’ve decided to keep the pad wheel and integrate it into the new system. I ran into problems where my old transducers run off 170 KHz to my very ancient B&G Hercules analogs from 198? So I ordered an actsense brand converter which turns the signal onto NMEA0183 directly (how about that!!) and now I can multiplex that and save a bit of ca$h..
