I did exactly what you are suggesting, running a computer muffin fan site it runs any time the compressor is running. I could probably have kept it going all the time, as the draw is extremely small. I used a very small one so as not to blow air out every time I opened the top. I was able to run very small wires under the weatherstriprather than drilling a hole through the side. I did that more as a test than a long term solution. It really helped stabilize the temperature on the fridge
