Hi,

I've got a 1980 C&C 36 with a tilting keel. I've been doing a bit of
repairs on the boat since the beginning of August, mostly re-bedding deck
hardware to fix various leaks and to prevent further water damage to the
deck sandwich construction. I had removed the mainsheet traveller, and
because the keel tilting rope runs through a deflection roller on it, the
keel was lowered during the repairs.

Today we were finally about to pull the keel up again. The winch was
serviced and the tilting mechanism had new deflection blocks, so it was
supposed to be much easier to lift than before. However, we only could pull
the keel up a bit before it basically got stuck. Now it won't drop down,
either. I'm suspecting the tilting keel has had some barnacles grow on it
and they're now crushed between the daggerboard housing and the daggerboard
itself.

What should I first try to get the keel moving again? Is there anything I
can try with the boat in the water? Maybe try to get a rope behind the
tilting keel to pull it down e.g. by reversing? I'm just worried such
attempts might end up making the situation only worse somehow.

Best,
