In the forklift business, the traditional way to figure battery life was in the
number of discharge cycles. We used to figure 350 to 400 discharges into the
60-80% range.

At least one of the battery manufacturers was starting to change the life
expectancy & warranty to a function of AH used (modern commercial smart
chargers can keep track of that sort of thing if properly set up).

Service life for a 3000 AH forklift battery would be something like 450,000 AH
with proper charging (8 hours use, 8 hours to charge, 8 hours to cool) and
proper watering. That’s 300 cycles to 50% discharge.

Subject: Stus-List Batteries LiFe vs Lipo

Matthew, like you I have lead cell batteries, Group 27's.....pretty much the
same usage....they are Great Northern, I think made in Hamilton, Ontario,
Canada.

The batteries are dated 04/2009, so I have had them now ten (10) sailing
seasons....and they stay on the boat here over the winter layup.

Probably time to get new ones.....and probably the only reason they have lasted
this long is because I am not depleting them significantly and recharging.

But for the price and compatibility with my boat, I will stay with lead acid.
