In general, yes they all work the same.
The wheel drive is a bit of a special case though. My ancient AH-4000 has a 
current limiting circuit to keep from burning the motor out. It has no rudder 
angle limiter, so it will try and turn the wheel past hard over. I always 
assumed that adapting another autopilot system to an AutoHelm/Raytheon wheel 
drive would require a rudder angle sensor to keep the system from going too far 
and burning the motor out. The Pelagic does have a rudder angle input, so maybe 
it does that.

I think the drive units operate similarly. I have a new B&G pilot using an old 
Raymarine drive. It works just fine.

I just ran across this and it looks interesting. They claim to be able to drive 
various inboard hydraulic systems and wheel drives besides for their own tiller 
drive.
