Ron,

Here is my recipe to bring up a shine on my boats.  I am a fan of the Aurora products.  I wash the boat down with Boat Clean in the wash water, use Boat scrub on a sponge across the topsides and use Black Streak remover on any of the stubborn spots.  That always leaves the topsides with a fairly dull, flat looking surface.  I then apply boat shine using a damp sponge and buff it out with either lots of terry cloths or a 6 inch orbital buffer.  One coat will bring the shine back up, two coats are even better.

Our old boat, Corsair (Redwing 35) was painted in Imron, our new boat, Grace (C&C 35-3) is gel coat.  Boat shine seems to do well with either.  Grace was a pretty bad shape when we bought her.  I don't think the topsides were shined for, at least, the ten years prior to our purchase.  Topsides were dull and chalky. We cleaned and polished them last spring and she looked great all season.  Water still beads up at the end of the season and Chicago/Gary crud washes off easier.

Richard Kittar used to lurk on the list (lots of years ago) and provided some useful tips and insights.  The only problem with the Aurora products is that most of them are shipped as "Hazardous Items".

What do you use to get all the old wax etc. off before applying nuglass?  I've tried 6-8 different waxes/cleaners with no luck.
