My advice would be to try the emergency tiller before you need it on a calm day because when you actually need it, it’s never calm and you never have the time to experiment with it. And a wire halyard will work as a replacement steering cable if you are sailing in a remote area. Don’t ask me how I know but it is very possible. Len
