I have used epoxy sealed red oak ~ 1" (actually less but its called 1x6
whatever!) as backing plates for my primary winches (Lewmar #50?) on my 36
XL/kcb.
It is one of the 'hardest'? of the hardwoods and I am confident that these
plates will last a very long time--they have been in place for ~8 years with no
signs of weakening.

Star board will eventually compress so the screws will get loose. I'd be more
comfortable using G-10.Andy

Hello all,
I have a nice chunk of Starboard and have need of a backing plate.

Is there a downside to using this as opposed to wood or something else?
Thanks!
