Thanks Josh and all for the ideas.  It is 8 pins into an 7/8” wide connector 
purpose built for the scanner.  No room for solder, at least not my soldering 
skills.  To Andy’s point…maybe just suck it up.   Ugh.  Another single purpose 
tool.

You could use a terminal board style db-9 or db-25 connector.  I could probably 
provide a male and female 9 pin if you want.
