I have not investigated specifically for myself because they always looked
like standard through hole LEDs from the '80s.  As a kid I always did all
sorts of experiments with them.  The bare LEDs I played with were about
3/16ths and you could buy sockets for them too.  When I looked online just
now, I realize that they are sold in metric diameters.  Based on available
metric sizes I would guess that they are 5mm.

Generally speaking, LEDs by themselves are designed to emit light between 1
and 3 volts.  Much higher than 3 and the LED will burn out.  It was common
to directly solder a resistor to one of the legs of the LED and sell the
combo as a "x.xx volt LED".  The resistor would come exposed or sometimes
heat shrinked to give a more finished look.

Armed with that info I think you can do a little disassembly to determine
exactly what you have and then order online.  Let me know if you get stuck.
