+1 on electric fuel pumps.
My Beta 28’s lift pump was either bad or could not manage whatever lift was
required when I replaced my Yanmar years ago. This was after many other
frustrating fuel problems (air in lines, fouled water separator, etc. ad
nauseum) were fixed or eliminated).
My mechanic suggested we bypass the lift pump entirely with 2 in-line, parallel
electric pumps (electrically and mechanically separated since the pumps had
internal fuel filters and if one clogged, it could not easily be switched out
otherwise).
Pumps were ~$20 each, and I have not had to switch them in about 2 years and my
fuel issues are GONE.
He bypassed the engine lift pump with some spare fuel hose—I think the entire
job, pumps and labor came to about 1 boat buck!

The lift pumps that put out 3-5 PSI or so are easily sourced from FleaBay or
Amazon in the $25-$50 range. Just check the pressure and that they are rated
for diesel.

There is nothing really special about them, our engines all use well under the
capacity of even a small pump.

Subject: [EXTERNAL] Stus-List electric fuel pump next question

Greetings again,

Well, it looks like it's a bad fuel pump even though never used (but 15yrs old
spare).

Universal wants 242$ for one.  But while messing about online, I noted
something on ebay that looks an awful lot like mine for only 35$; actually more
than one.  I'm not real good online so I have anxiety!

How can one tell if it's the same or not?  I only have the Universal part
number.
