I use carabiners for my Jacklines but I don’t put them in series in the chain, I use as a toggle inserted in the sewn-in loop, to secure it in the hole in the toerail. My jacklines are custom made load-rated cargo slings used in the material handling biz. I’m still pondering the midship cleat but If I were to use carabiners it would be in this manner. Effectively, the carabiner is a captive pin.
