Hey David I believe so yes. I just changed my wire and chain with replacements from Edson. (also had a broken strand that hooked my meat) I did remove the binnacle because I also wanted to change the throttle/ gear cables and also most importantly treat the Idler plate that holds the sheaves for the wire rope with some anti rust love POR 3-step. I thank my lucky stars mine was in much better shape than some other 37/40 owners'. There's good videos on Edson's website showing how to do it.
