On the 1989 34R, the maststep is a deep welded aluminum box with wooden spacer blocks in front and behind. The box originally had one 1/2" drain hole but the wooden blocks always looked wet. I added two 3/8" drain holes and also scallopped the bottoms of the wooden blocks so they left a path for water to find those holes. Chuck S
