The upper ones are the attachment points for your Running Backstays.  The
lower ones are for your Checkstays.  They run to blocks vey near the stern
of your boat, at the ends of the Toe Rails and then back to winches.

On non fractional rigs such as yours the backstay supports the mast where
the headsail attaches at the top of the mast. The running backstay and
checkstay do the same job, but for the middle part of the mast. Running
backs are not permanently run aft since it interferes with the mainsail. If
you are on starboard tack with your main to the port side then the running
back is attached on the starboard side aft to support the mast there and
stop the mast from pumping in rough seas.

We mostly only use ours when it is rough out so the mast starts pumping.
