As you know, Rick. I do the same thing. I’ve been spending a lot of time with novices who have brought boats way bigger than they can handle. You gave these folks some very good, valuable advice.

Janet;

I have a co-worker who recently took a 7 day sailing school in the Chesapeake as a first step to buying a 45 foot boat and taking their two young kids to living on a boat in the Caribbean. When he discovered that I have a USCG Masters ticket and do deliveries along the coat, more than a few of which involve coaching new boat owners, we discussed his plans and options.

I’ve suggested to him that he look at a smaller boat and do day sailing, weekends, and some coastal cruising with the family (the kids are both under 7) for a couple of years to gain experience and sailing skill before making a really big and expensive jump to a big cruising boat. He was interested in inquiring about the 27-2 in Long Island Sound that was mentioned on the list about a week ago – especially when I offered to help him bring the boat to North Carolina. Your 30 might be a good option for him.

Can you send me information about the boat – photos, description, equipment you plan to include, engine (if it has been repowered)… that sort of thing. I can get specs and brochures off the Photo Album. I’ll be seeing him on Sunday and can pass along anything you can send.

My email address is rickbr...@earthlink.net, or you can text to 252-946-2244.

Thanks
