About 8 or 9 years ago one of the 40 gallon plastic tanks under the settees in my 1976 C&C 38 developed a crack and leak. A friend who had a newer 38 Landfall had a similar leak in one of his tanks and was able to get it welded. Mine was the wrong material, so that was not a solution. Guess almost 40 years of service on the old tank was pretty acceptable.
Decided to replace both of my tanks with suitable Plastimo flexible tanks, since I could not find rigid tanks of suitable shape and size to replace the old ones. I was concerned about chafe and possible punctures to the flexible tanks, and wanted to use the storage trays under the settees that were partially supported by the old tanks. I was trying to think of something when someone suggested that I just cut the top out of the old rigid tanks and put the flexible ones inside the remaining shells. 8 or 9 years later, and a couple of offshore trips and coastal cruising, I'm really happy with the Plastimo tanks and the arrangement I have.
