It appears that you have a track with lots of holes already drilled—a good thing! OTOH, it will be a time consuming job to drill and tap all the holes you will need on your mast—some of which will require you to use a bosun’s chair or other climbing harness to reach and drill the holes near the top of your track. Be prepared, probably with a helper and several drill bits and taps, for long day of drilling and tapping—some of it done while hanging from a halyard! I had a rigger do mine and he did a lot of whining about the amount of time it took. FWIW, Charlie Nelson 1995 C&C 36 XL/kcbWater Phantom

Believe it or not, the mast should actually be stronger with the track installed. Drill and tap and coat the fasteners with TefGel before installing. If you're paranoid about the fasteners backing out, use red thread lock instead of TefGel. Did a pole track a few years ago for a client. Install the track with the top and bottom fasteners first then drill the rest. -- Dennis C.Touche' 35-1 #83Mandeville, LA On Thu, Oct 23, 2025 at 10:55 AM Bruce Whitmore via CnC-List <[email protected]> wrote: Hello all, This may seem kind of obvious, but I want to install a ring for a whisker pole on our 1994 C&C 37/40+. I found a track and ring, and there are holes about every 5" for 1/4" x 20 flathead screws. The idea of drilling holes every " or so on the front of the mast makes me think about weakening the mast strength, but I see tracks on masts all the time. Am I over worrying it? Yes, that is SOP for me... :) Bruce Whitmore1994 C&C 37/40+ "Astralis"Madeira Beach, FL Your contributions help pay the fees associated with this list and help to keep it active.
