Fixing soft spots in the deck

Hello all,

I thought I'd post about a good experience I had with addressing soft spots
ahead of the companionway hatch on our C&C 37/40+. The hatch stops were
created by screwing down a piece of teak at the front of the companionway
cover, and after years of the hatch banging into the piece of teak, the
screws caused leaks into the core.

In addition, an area around the centerboard cable stop block also developed
leaks and resulted in rotted core.

For a lot of reasons, I dreaded the idea of peeling off the deck, and found
a product called Injectadeck. It is a two-part foam injected into the
space caused by rotted balsa core, and it actually works better when the
area is damp. You drill 1/4" holes about 12" - 18" apart and inject the
foam into the area. Due to the expansion, you may have to apply pressure
to the area to push foam back out to keep the deck from bowing up too
much. No big deal, just step on the deck to keep it all aligned.

So, about 5 years ago, I tried it. It worked great. We fixed a 12" x 18"
area of soft deck in about an hour. It's rock solid, it's light weight,
and I applied MarineTex over the holes and touch up painted the holes. Not
only that, the two part foam doesn't absorb water, so if leaks occur again,
it won't rot.

I'm not getting paid for this review, I paid full price for the product,
and have no ties to the company. Just my $02 worth.

Hope you find this helpful,
