Joel,

That would be a solution, although I’ve found dyneema cored lined to get rather
stiff over time or tend to hold their shape (like around a winch) and there
will be degradation from UV and friction on the portion of the rope that is
uncovered. And yes, way more expensive than a double braid polyester that’s
been “de-cored”.

It’s up to Richard which direction he takes. As mentioned, if the furler is
well lubricated the loads on the furling line shouldn’t be excessive. I’ll
typically take off a bit of halyard tension when I furl my headsail in a hard
blow just to make sure the furler’s bearings aren’t being loaded vertically.

Happy New Year to all!

Chuck,

Wouldn't he be better off with a dyneema cored line and remove the cover (other
than the price)?

Hi Richard,

I work with Novatec Braids from Nova Scotia. Feel free to call me at
774-328-4473. We’ve spoken before ,my inlaws are Louisville based. If you
need line for your furler, Marc Crutcher at Unbridled Sailing (near the
Louisville airport) can hook you up with the 5/16” (8mm) line you need for the
furler and he can remove as much core as needed to get adequate length on the
furling reel for a 150 genoa. Now is also a good time to lube the bearings on
the swivel and reel of the furler which means less stress on the furling rope
when you pull it in (removing the core will make the line much weaker). Bring
Marc the old line so he knows exactly how much core to remove.

Happy New Year!

Hi all, I am in need of someone who can help me with replacing the furling
line; it has the core removed for most of the length; I thought there was
someone on this list who works for or with a rope manufacturer or
distributor...anyone know how I can contact them? Or other ideas/-suggestions?
Many thanks!
