I know someone who actually did that to their C&C 40. They sawed the bottom of 
the keel off and then bolted on a bulb from Mars Metal. I have no idea how much 
that costs now, but back in the day it increased the value of a 40 in the 
Chesapeake by about how much it cost for the bulb.
A non pure-race boat around here that draws over 6 feet is a hard sell.
