Hello all, I replaced our idler plate with an aluminum one from Edson about 7 years ago. The problem was that the plate is thicker than the original and I even had to send the old idler pulleys to Edson for installation on the new plate because the new pulleys were too big for the plate to fit. I also ended up with the pedestal sitting a little higher due to the thick plate.
If you can get something made out of stainless at a machine shop, that would be the best option. As for the cables, I made up 4 myself at West Marine using their rigging wire and nicopress stage fittings. I have 2 backups I haven't needed and it's been doing great for many years. That part of the project was cheap as well.
