yes several people have described the same symptoms and they were hacked.
try your root password as all caps, all caps backwards and reversed caps.
those are usually how its changed. The take a look at /root/.bash_history
for any foreign entries like a wget. Especially for rh6kit. That's the
common root kit that is being installed on RAQ3's and 4's.
