[cobalt-developers] Setting Variables

I am trying to add some variables to may .profile on a RaQ4.
I put export ANT_HOME=/var/ant
        export Java_HOME=/usr/jre1.2

That works on my home linux machine but on the coblat RaQ it doesn't
What file must I edit for it to work
