I am having real trouble securing a directory using .htaccess, can I ask a huge favor 
by asking you what your conf files look like because I've tried all different 
variations and nothing seems to work. I am using the latest version of Apache. Also 
could you tell me what you had to put in the .htaccess files to make things work.

ls -al  (in telnet)

you can exucute custom commands in cutftp
you will have to read the doc's for the commands tho.
