The same happened to me.
As I have access to macromedia's university, I submitted this problems to
their support dept. and they answered that they didn't support other�s
software. - (are they playing on MS behalf? )
My conclusion is that if we change their ASP db connection code for
MySQL's you may have dynamic db working as Macromedia intends.
Now, they provide all kind of ODBC but none for MySQL ( MS again?).
As I also had many hours and no gain on this, I just threw this away and
adapted a PHP - MySQL free script. Now I am learning PHP.
Sorry of not being of much help, but at least not many more will their time
with this.
Now...if someone can make this work, please let us know.
