This might be the trick I need. BUT, the Cobalt Cube has no VGA
support at the BIOS level, which almost every PC has. I wonder
if SVGAlib expect/requires this BIOS level support? Or if it just
takes over the video card control completely... hmmm.
I also wonder if your firend's machine was also mouseless. Another
post pointed out that X requires exactly one pointer device...
If you think it would be okay, I'd like to ask your firend a couple
questions about his setup.

Try to use a SVGAlib instead of X-server. Fried of mine used this to
build up a game-machine running on keyboard-less Linux box.
But this is obviously no solution if you want to use X-applications that
you cannot adapt to SVGAlib.
